Product Description
The Knot Pusher is designed to slide smoothly over high-strength UHMWPE sutures, allowing the surgeon to advance knots into the joint without the "sawing" effect that can weaken the repair.
The Suture Cutter features a side-loading or top-loading mechanism that ensures the suture is cut exactly at the knot level. This prevents long "tails" from catching in the joint space.
The slim, rigid shafts are specifically sized to pass through 5mm or 7mm arthroscopic cannulas, providing the reach needed for posterior compartment repairs.
Used in Bankart and Rotator Cuff repairs to secure knots deep within the glenohumeral joint where finger tying is impossible.
Essential for labral suturing and capsular closure, providing the long reach necessary to navigate the deep acetabular socket.
The primary indication is ACL/PCL reconstruction and meniscal repair. It is also used for securing sutures in MPFL reconstruction and ankle ligament stabilization.

A Knot Pusher is a tool used to slide a pre-tied knot from outside the body down into a joint through a small hole. A Suture Cutter is a specialized surgical scissor that reaches inside the joint to snip off the excess thread once the knot is tight. Think of them as the "hands and scissors" for inside the knee.
These tools are used in almost every Arthroscopic Knee Surgery. When a surgeon stitches a torn meniscus or fixes a new ACL, they can't reach inside with their fingers to tie the knot. They use the Knot Pusher to slide the knot down and the Suture Cutter to clean up the extra thread so the knee can move smoothly.
The main advantage is Reliability and Neatness. The Knot Pusher ensures the knot is as tight as possible, which is vital for the ligament to heal. The Suture Cutter is designed to cut the thread very close to the knot. This is important because long pieces of thread left in the knee can feel like a "loose body" and cause irritation or clicking.
Biomechanically, the Knot Pusher facilitates the transfer of tension ($T$) from the surgeon’s hands to the tissue interface. By guiding the suture limb, it prevents tangential forces that could cause suture breakage. The Suture Cutter uses a Shear Force mechanism designed to cut through high-tensile fibers without fraying, ensuring the structural integrity of the knot remains intact.
After the suture is passed through the tissue, the surgeon ties a knot outside the knee. One "limb" of the suture is threaded through the Knot Pusher. The pusher is then used to slide the knot into the joint. Once tight, the Suture Cutter is introduced through the same portal, slid down to the knot, and activated to trim the ends safely.
These are surgical instruments, not implants, so they are removed at the end of the procedure. Because they allow for such secure and tidy knot tying, patients experience Fewer Irritations within the joint. This helps in the early stages of rehabilitation, as the patient can focus on range-of-motion exercises without internal "snagging" from long suture tails.
The Knot Pusher & Suture Cutter for Knee are indispensable for modern arthroscopy. By providing a reliable way to secure and trim sutures in tight spaces, TOOLMED helps surgeons achieve the high-quality, anatomical repairs that lead to successful long-term patient outcomes.
While we offer reusable versions, we highly recommend our Single-Use sterile versions. This ensures the suture cutter is always razor-sharp and the knot pusher is free of any microscopic surface defects that could fray the suture.
Yes. The blades are made of hardened stainless steel specifically designed to cut through "super-fibers" like UHMWPE without dulling or snagging.
The Knot Pusher provides tactile feedback. Surgeons can feel the resistance as the knot seats against the tissue, ensuring the ligament is properly compressed for healing.
The Suture Cutter is designed with a safety guard or recessed blade that only allows the suture limb to be cut, protecting the knot and the surrounding tissue from accidental damage.
Yes, the instruments are made of 304V stainless steel. However, they are removed from the joint before the surgery is over, so they are not present during any later MRI scans.
