Product Description
The specialized coracoid "hook" guides are designed to wrap around the base of the coracoid process. This provides a rigid mechanical stop that ensures the drill cannot plunge too deep, protecting the sensitive nerves and vessels located just below the bone.
The set utilizes small-diameter cannulated drills, allowing for strong stabilization with minimal bone removal. This is critical for preventing clavicle fractures post-surgery while still providing enough space for high-strength suture tapes.
The aiming system is calculated to align the tunnels with the natural vectors of the conoid and trapezoid ligaments, restoring the shoulder's natural biomechanics and preventing future instability.
The primary indication is for AC joint stabilization and coracoclavicular (CC) ligament reconstruction. It is also used for coracoid-based suture anchor placement in complex rotator cuff repairs.
Certain suture passers and small-diameter drills in this set are adapted for specialized labral reconstructions where access is limited and bone tunnels must be kept small.
The specialized depth gauges and suture feeders can be utilized in ankle syndesmosis repairs or for stabilizing small bone fragments in the wrist or foot.

This is a specialized "aiming and drilling" kit for the shoulder. When a person has a "separated shoulder," the ligaments holding the collarbone down are torn. This set provides the tools (like hooks and tiny drills) to help the surgeon drill holes in the bones and thread high-strength medical tape through them to pull the shoulder back into place.
This set is used almost exclusively for AC Joint Repairs. It is essential for athletes or workers who have suffered a severe fall on their shoulder. It allows the surgeon to perform the repair with extreme precision, ensuring the collarbone (clavicle) is perfectly aligned with the rest of the shoulder.
The main advantage is Safety. The coracoid bone is located near many important nerves. This set uses a special "hook" guide that holds the bone securely so the drill doesn't slip. It also uses very small drills so that the collarbone stays strong and doesn't break after the surgery while the patient is healing.
Biomechanically, the set facilitates Vertical and Horizontal Stabilization. By aligning the tunnels with the anatomical origins of the CC ligaments, the surgeon can apply the correct tension ($T$) to counteract the upward force ($F_u$) of the clavicle. The precision of the tunnels ensures that the stress is distributed evenly across the bone, reducing the risk of "bone-cut-through" by the sutures.
The surgeon places the Coracoid Guide under the bone through a small incision or arthroscopically. A Guide Wire is drilled through the clavicle into the coracoid. The Cannulated Drill then creates the tunnel. Using a Nitinol Suture Passer, the surgeon pulls the reconstruction tape through both bones and secures it with a button or screw, locking the joint in its natural position.
These tools are removed after the surgery. Because the repair is so anatomically precise, the shoulder joint is immediately much more stable. Patients usually wear a sling for a few weeks but can start Early Range of Motion exercises sooner than with older surgical methods, leading to a faster return to daily activities.
The AC Joint Reconstruction Instrument Set is the professional standard for shoulder stabilization. By combining safety-focused anatomical guides with high-precision drilling tools, TOOLMED provides surgeons with the confidence to restore shoulder stability and get patients back to their active lifestyles.
Yes. The guides are designed with a slim profile that works perfectly for arthroscopic-assisted techniques, but they are also robust enough for traditional open surgeries.
Actually, it is safer than drilling without one. The hook acts as a shield, ensuring the drill tip is captured and cannot move past the bone into the soft tissues below.
The set is optimized for use with standard high-strength suture tapes and #2 or #5 sutures commonly used in "Button" fixation systems.
While the drills are made of high-quality stainless steel, we recommend regular inspection for sharpness. Many hospitals prefer to replace the drills every 10-20 cases to ensure the best cutting performance.
Yes. The set comes in a specialized, organized aluminum tray that protects the delicate tips of the guides and suture passers during the autoclave process.
