Product Description
The plate is pre-shaped to match the lateral anatomy of the calcaneus, providing a global support frame that restores the height and width of the heel bone (Böhler's angle).
Features a high density of locking holes at varying angles, allowing the surgeon to secure even the smallest articular fragments and provide subchondral support to the subtalar joint.
The skin on the side of the heel is very thin. This plate is engineered to be as thin as possible (under 1.5mm) with beveled edges to prevent wound complications and hardware irritation.
By locking the screws into the plate, it creates a "bridge" over the fractured bone pieces, allowing for early joint mobilization and preventing the heel from shifting under pressure.
Primary indication for fractures that involve the joint surfaces of the heel bone (Sanders Type II, III, and IV).
Used to stabilize multi-fragmentary breaks in the main body of the heel bone to prevent deformity.
Indicated for corrective osteotomies where the heel has healed in a crooked position and needs to be realigned and replated.
Provides the structural "walls" needed to hold bone graft and reconstructed joint surfaces in place after a severe crushing injury.

This is a thin, titanium "web" or "frame" used to fix a broken heel bone (the calcaneus). The heel is like a hard-boiled egg; when it breaks, it often shatters into many small pieces. This plate is curved to fit the side of your heel perfectly, acting as a structural wall. It uses many small screws to pin all the pieces back together so the bone can support your weight again.
The side of your heel bone isn't flat—it has a very specific anatomical curve. The Curved Plate-I is pre-shaped to match this curve. This means the surgeon doesn't have to bend the metal as much during surgery, which makes the plate stronger and the operation faster and more accurate.
Because the heel bone is very "spongy" (cancellous) on the inside, regular screws can sometimes lose their grip. The Locking technology in this plate means the screws are bolted into the plate itself. This creates a solid "scaffold" that keeps the heel from squashing down while you heal, ensuring your foot stays the correct shape.
Biomechanically, the heel bone acts as the "foundation" of your foot's arch. If the heel stays broken or flat, it can lead to lifelong pain and trouble walking. The Calcaneous Plate restores the height of the bone and supports the joint surface, allowing the mechanics of your ankle to work smoothly again.
The surgeon usually makes an "L-shaped" incision on the outside of the heel. The bone pieces are carefully moved back into place, and the plate is laid over the bone. Screws are then placed through the plate into the solid parts of the bone. Because the plate is so thin, it doesn't get in the way of the tendons that move your toes and ankle.
Healing a heel bone takes patience. You will likely be told not to put any weight on that foot for 6 to 10 weeks. However, because the plate is so stable, you can often start moving your ankle and toes very early to keep the joints from getting stiff. Once the bone is strong enough, you will slowly begin walking in a special boot or shoe.
The Calcaneous Locking Plate-I, Curved is a vital tool for saving the function of the foot after a severe injury. Its anatomical fit and high-strength locking stability provide the best chance at a pain-free recovery and a return to normal walking and activities.
Because the skin over the heel is thin, some patients might feel the plate's presence. However, the TOOLMED plate is "ultra-low profile" (very thin) with rounded edges, which is designed specifically to minimize this feeling and prevent irritation.
Most of the time, the plate stays in permanently. If it causes irritation once the bone is 100% healed (usually after a year), it can be removed in a small second procedure. Many patients, however, never feel the need to remove it.
Heel surgery is a precision task and usually takes between 1.5 and 2.5 hours, depending on how many pieces the bone has broken into.
Yes. Titanium is lightweight, very strong, and has a slight flexibility that is closer to natural bone than stainless steel. It is also completely MRI-safe.
The goal of the plate is to restore the bone to its original shape. With the help of the plate and good physical therapy, most patients can return to normal walking, though it can take 6 to 12 months to reach full recovery.
