Product Description
The four-arm design allows for divergent screw placement across fracture lines. This "bridge" effect is superior for holding together shattered pieces of bone that a straight plate might miss.
Each screw locks into the plate, acting like an internal frame. This prevents the bone fragments from shifting or "telescoping" during the walking cycle, ensuring the foot maintains its proper shape.
With a thickness under 1.3mm and highly polished surfaces, this plate is designed to sit invisibly under the skin, protecting the extensor tendons from friction and irritation.
Forged from Grade 5 titanium alloy, providing high fatigue resistance to endure the thousands of steps taken during the recovery phase while remaining completely MRI-safe.
Specifically for "shattered" bones where multiple small fragments need to be gathered and stabilized.
Used to fuse multiple small joints in the midfoot, such as the Naviculocuneiform or Tarsometatarsal joints.
Ideal for holding bone grafts in place during reconstructive surgery for flatfoot or high-arch corrections.
Used in cases where previous hardware has failed and a broad, multi-screw anchorage is needed to secure the bone.

This is a specialized titanium brace shaped like an "X." It is used for the bones in the middle of your foot when a regular straight plate isn't enough. If a bone is broken into many small pieces, the four "arms" of the X-plate allow the surgeon to reach out and grab each piece, pulling them all back together into their original shape.
A straight plate can only hold things in a line. But foot bones often break in multiple directions. The X-Locking Plate provides 360-degree stability. It's like having four small plates in one, providing much better support against the twisting and turning forces that happen when you walk.
In the small bones of the foot, screws can sometimes lose their "grip." Our Locking Screws are different—they screw into the bone AND lock into the plate. This makes the whole setup incredibly rigid, which is exactly what a shattered bone needs to heal properly without shifting.
Biomechanically, the midfoot acts as the "shock absorber" of your body. It has to be stiff when you push off and flexible when you land. This plate is designed to restore the stiffness of the foot's arch, ensuring that your weight is distributed correctly from your heel to your toes.
The surgeon makes a targeted incision on the top of the foot. Because the plate is ultra-low profile, it fits neatly under the skin and tendons. Once the bone fragments are aligned, the surgeon "cross-fixes" them with the plate's arms. This creates a titanium "cage" that protects the bone while it knits back together.
Recovery depends on the severity of the break, but the stability of the X-plate often allows patients to start moving their foot sooner than with a cast alone. The titanium is designed to stay in your foot forever. It is lightweight, non-magnetic, and so slim that you shouldn't be able to feel it through your skin once the healing is complete.
The MT X-Locking Plate represents the peak of multi-directional fixation. By providing a stable, broad-coverage solution for the most complex foot injuries, it gives surgeons the confidence to rebuild the foot and gives patients the best chance at a full, active recovery.
The plate is engineered to be "ultra-low profile," meaning it is very thin. Once the initial surgical swelling goes down, most patients cannot feel the plate, even when wearing shoes.
Yes. All TOOLMED titanium implants are non-magnetic and safe for use in MRI machines. They also rarely set off airport metal detectors due to their small size.
The plate typically has 4 to 6 holes. Your surgeon will decide how many screws are needed based on your specific injury to ensure the bone is perfectly stable.
Most midfoot bones take about 8 to 12 weeks to heal fully. The plate provides all the necessary strength during this period so the bone can grow back together undisturbed.
Yes. The X-plate is an excellent choice for stabilizing the bones during corrective flatfoot surgery (osteotomies), as it provides the rotational stability needed to hold the new arch shape.
